Florida's 2026 Gun Tax Holiday Starts Sept 1: Here's What You'll Save in Pensacola

Florida’s 2026 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday begins Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and runs through Thursday, December 31, 2026.
During the holiday, qualifying firearms, ammunition, and listed firearm accessories can be purchased exempt from Florida sales tax. For customers shopping at Coastal Firearm Corporation in Pensacola, that can mean savings of up to the normal 7.5% combined sales tax rate in Escambia County, depending on the item and transaction.
We are located at 534 S. Navy Blvd, right outside NAS-Pensacola. If you are planning a purchase, we can help you identify eligible products, check current inventory, and explain the next steps.
What the Florida Tax Holiday Covers
The tax holiday applies to qualifying hunting supplies, including:
- Pistols
- Rifles
- Shotguns
- Ammunition that meets the statutory definition
- Holsters
- Magazines and other ammunition feeding devices
- Firearm cases and range bags
- Cleaning kits
- Barrels
- Charging handles
- Handguards
- Internal parts and components
- Pistol grips
- Sights and optics
- Shooting rests, mats, bipods, and chronographs
- Slings
- Stocks and braces
- Slides and cylinders
- Suppressors or silencers
- Triggers
The official list is limited. An accessory is not automatically tax-exempt simply because it is used with a firearm. The item must be specifically included in the Florida Department of Revenue guidance.
Review the official 2026 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday information before making a purchase if you have questions about a particular product.
How Much You Could Save in Pensacola
Florida’s state sales tax is 6%. Escambia County’s 2026 discretionary surtax is 1.5%, creating a combined general sales tax rate of 7.5% for most retail purchases.
Here are straightforward examples of potential savings:
| Eligible purchase price | Potential tax savings at 7.5% |
|---|---|
| $300 | $22.50 |
| $500 | $37.50 |
| $750 | $56.25 |
| $1,000 | $75.00 |
| $1,500 | $112.50 |
| $2,000 | $150.00 |
These examples show the tax amount that would normally apply to an eligible purchase. Your final transaction may vary based on the items purchased, how they are packaged, and whether the order includes taxable products or other charges.
The Escambia County surtax generally applies only to the first $5,000 of the sales price of a single item. The state tax holiday rules and the item-specific exemption determine whether tax is due.
Ammunition Purchases
Ammunition is included when it meets the definition in section 790.001(1), Florida Statutes. The item must include:
- A fixed metallic or nonmetallic hull or casing containing a primer
- One or more projectiles, bullets, or shot
- Gunpowder
We carry many popular calibers in stock, and special orders are available for harder-to-find ammunition. Check our current inventory or call us before visiting so we can confirm availability.
Firearm and Accessory Purchases
The holiday may be useful if you are already planning to purchase a firearm and need the related equipment to use, transport, or maintain it.
For example, an eligible purchase could include:
- A new or used handgun with a holster
- A rifle with a listed optic
- A shotgun with a case or range bag
- Ammunition with a cleaning kit
- A suppressor or other listed firearm accessory, subject to all applicable requirements
Coastal Firearm Corporation carries new and used firearms from manufacturers such as Glock, SIG SAUER, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and Rossi. Our accessory selection includes optics, holsters, cleaning supplies, targets, and other range equipment.
If you do not see the firearm or accessory you want, let us know. We have access to multiple distributors and can place special orders when available.
Mixed Orders May Be Taxable
Not every item in a transaction will qualify for the holiday.
If an eligible firearm accessory is sold as part of a set with a taxable product, the complete set may be subject to sales tax. The Florida Department of Revenue gives the example of a rifle scope sold together with a camouflage hunting vest. The scope may qualify when sold separately, but the complete set is taxable because the vest is not an eligible firearm accessory.
For the clearest transaction:
- Identify the qualifying items.
- Separate eligible and noneligible products when possible.
- Ask us to confirm how the items will be treated before checkout.
- Keep your receipt for your records.
Shipping and handling charges may also require allocation when an order includes both exempt and taxable items.
NFA Items Still Require Compliance
Suppressors and silencers are included in the listed firearm accessories for the tax holiday. The exemption applies to sales tax only. It does not remove federal or state requirements for NFA items.
Purchasing an NFA item may still require:
- Completing the applicable ATF process
- Providing required identifying information
- Waiting for approval before taking possession
- Completing the transfer through the proper process
- Paying applicable transfer, processing, or other fees
If you are considering a suppressor, SBR, SBS, or another Class III item, contact us before placing your order. We can explain the store’s process and identify what information is needed.
Online Orders and FFL Transfers
The tax holiday can apply to eligible remote purchases when the order is accepted during the holiday period for immediate shipment. State requirements still apply when the firearm is delivered to an FFL dealer.
If an online firearm is shipped to Coastal Firearm Corporation, our FFL transfer service is available for customers who complete the required process.
Our current listed fees are:
- FFL transfer: $45
- Background check: $5
- Total: $50
The transferring FFL or seller must provide the required information before shipment. After delivery notification, please allow up to 24 hours for processing. You are responsible for notifying us about the incoming transfer and arranging pickup.
Tax treatment for an online order may depend on when the order is accepted, how it is shipped, and whether the purchase includes taxable products or fees. Confirm the details with the seller and the receiving FFL.
What the Holiday Does Not Cover
The Florida Department of Revenue states that the holiday does not apply to:
- Rentals of eligible items
- Repairs of eligible items
- Purchases for commercial use
- Items not specifically included on the eligible list
- Certain sales made in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or airports
Coastal Firearm’s gun locker rentals are a separate service and are not part of the tax holiday. If you need secure storage near NAS-Pensacola, see our locker rental information for details and availability.
Military and Law Enforcement Customers
We offer discounts for military personnel, veterans, and law enforcement officers as a straightforward thank-you for their service.
If you qualify for a discount, bring the required identification and ask our staff how the discount applies to your purchase. Discount policies and tax treatment are separate matters, so we will review the transaction with you before checkout.
