NFA Items in Pensacola: How to Buy a Suppressor or SBR at Coastal Firearm in 2026

If you are looking for NFA items in Pensacola, Coastal Firearm Corporation can help you purchase silencers, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns through the proper federal process.
We are located at 534 S. Navy Blvd, right outside NAS-Pensacola. We serve active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement officers, and civilian firearm owners throughout the Pensacola area.
The process changed in 2026, but the paperwork and federal approval requirements still matter.
What Are NFA Items?
NFA items are firearms and firearm accessories regulated under the National Firearms Act. At Coastal Firearm, this commonly includes:
- Suppressors, also called silencers
- Short-barreled rifles, or SBRs
- Short-barreled shotguns, or SBSs
A suppressor is designed to reduce the sound and muzzle flash produced when a firearm is fired. It does not make a firearm silent.
An SBR is generally a rifle with a barrel shorter than the minimum length allowed for a standard rifle configuration. An SBS is a shotgun that falls below the applicable federal barrel-length requirements.
These items require careful attention to federal registration, transfer procedures, and possession requirements. If you are not sure whether a particular firearm configuration qualifies as an NFA item, ask us before purchasing.
What Changed in 2026?
The federal NFA transfer tax for suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs dropped to $0 on January 1, 2026.
The $0 tax does not mean the item is exempt from federal requirements. For a standard dealer transfer, you still need to complete the required ATF process, submit identifying information, and receive approval before taking possession.
The main points are:
- The transfer tax is now $0.
- Registration and federal review still apply.
- Fingerprints and a passport-style photo are still required for the normal process.
- The ATF eForm 4 must still be completed and certified.
- You must wait for ATF approval before taking possession.
- A Form 4473 and background check are completed at the shop when you pick up the item.
You can review ATF forms and current information through the ATF Firearms Forms page and use the ATF eForms system.
Current Approval Times
Approval times have become much shorter than many customers may remember.
As of late September 2026, individual eForm 4 filings are commonly clearing in approximately 2 to 4 days. Trust filings typically take approximately 3 to 13 days, although times can change based on ATF workload and the details of an individual application.
The ATF’s published July 2026 average for individual eForm 4 applications was approximately 9 days. Published averages are not guarantees. A specific application may be approved faster or may take longer.
The electronic process is the normal route for current NFA transfers. We will explain the expected steps and help you confirm what information is needed before filing.

Federal Court Ruling and Current ATF Procedures
An August 2026 federal court ruling in Texas affected registration requirements for certain parties. However, ATF has not issued formal guidance covering every possible situation, and the eForms system is operating normally.
Do not assume that the ruling changes your purchase process automatically.
Before you buy an NFA item, contact us so we can help confirm the current process for your situation. The requirements may depend on the type of item, the transfer method, and the buyer’s circumstances.
What Florida Law Says
Florida law allows suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs when they are lawfully possessed under federal law.
Florida Statute 790.221 makes possession of an unlawfully possessed SBR or SBS a second-degree felony. The statute includes an exception for firearms lawfully owned and possessed under federal law.
Florida does not add a separate state registration, tax, or permit for these NFA items. Federal compliance is what keeps possession legal under the Florida exception.
Before purchasing, make sure:
- You can lawfully possess firearms.
- The item is legal to own in your state.
- The configuration is correctly classified.
- The required federal application has been approved.
- You follow all storage, transportation, and use requirements.
It is the customer’s responsibility to verify that an item is legal to own in their state. If you have a question about a particular configuration, contact us before placing an order. For legal advice specific to your situation, consult a qualified firearms attorney.
How to Buy an NFA Item at Coastal Firearm
The standard local process is straightforward when your information is complete.
1. Choose the Item
Start by identifying what you need. We can help you compare available suppressors, factory SBRs, and SBSs based on your firearm, intended use, caliber, mounting system, and budget.
You can review our current inventory, or contact us if you are looking for an item that is not currently on the shelf.
2. Confirm the Dealer and Transfer Process
NFA transfers must be handled through a dealer authorized to deal in these items. This is commonly called an FFL with an SOT.
Coastal Firearm Corporation offers NFA Class III special orders for silencers, SBRs, and SBSs through top distributors and local sources. We will confirm the item, availability, price, and transfer requirements before moving forward.
3. Set Up Your ATF eForms Account
You will need an ATF eForms account for the electronic Form 4 process.
We will help make sure the basic information on the application matches your identification and purchase records. Accurate information helps avoid delays and corrections.
4. Provide Fingerprints and a Photo
The standard process requires fingerprints and a passport-style photograph.
Bring the requested identification and information when you come to the shop. We will explain what is needed and how it will be used for the application.
5. Certify the eForm 4
The dealer prepares and submits the electronic Form 4. You review and certify the application.
The transfer tax amount is $0 in 2026, but the application, registration, and ATF review still apply.
6. Wait for ATF Approval
Do not take possession of the NFA item before approval.
Current processing is often measured in days rather than months, but approval timing is controlled by ATF. We will let you know when the transfer is ready for the final pickup steps.
7. Complete the Form 4473 at Pickup
After ATF approval, you return to Coastal Firearm to complete the required Form 4473 and background check before taking possession.
Bring valid identification and allow time for the final transfer process. The NFA approval does not replace the Form 4473 completed at the dealer.

What We Stock and Special Order
Our inventory changes regularly. We can help with:
- Suppressors for popular pistol, rifle, and rimfire calibers
- Factory short-barreled rifles
- Short-barreled shotguns
- Mounting systems and compatible accessories
- Replacement parts and related firearm accessories
If you do not see the item you want, ask about a special order. We have access to multiple distributors and local sources.
We also offer military and law enforcement discounts as a straightforward thank-you to those who serve. Ask about eligibility when you contact us.
Hunting With NFA Items in Florida
Hunting with a suppressor is legal in Florida when the suppressor and firearm are lawfully possessed and all hunting rules are followed.
You must still comply with:
- Florida hunting license requirements
- Season dates
- Legal game and method-of-take rules
- Any applicable wildlife management area restrictions
- Federal and state firearm possession laws
Hunting with an SBR or SBS is not legal in Florida. If you are planning a suppressed hunting setup, ask us about a standard rifle configuration and confirm the current Florida hunting rules before going into the field.
Do Not Confuse NFA Transfers With Standard FFL Transfers
Our normal FFL transfer service is separate from the NFA process.
For a standard firearm transfer, our fee is:
- FFL transfer: $45
- Background check: $5
- Total: $50
Standard transfers process within 24 hours after delivery notification and have a 30-day pickup policy. These terms do not replace or shorten the NFA approval process.
You can review our standard FFL transfer information for details.
